Playing our game “sit down Sunday”

Today we played “Sit down Sunday” and we thought of doing a variation of this game – “Sit down December”.

We wrote the game on the board and made a discovery – these games both repeat and are patterns!!

in groups, we tried to make up our own “Sit down” games.

Jorji, Nyachuot, Miniya and Abass –
“Sit down 100, you count and you sit down on 100, 200, 300, 400, 500”.
Jasmine, Nyamal, Alex and Seth –
“Sit down 6 – you sit down on all the numbers ending in 6, so 6, 16, 26, 36”.
Alison, Bree and Zakeem –
“Sit down time, it’s a repeating pattern of words – teacher, children, pencil, book, computer, sit down time! And then it repeats”.
AJ –
“Sit down Z, it’s the alphabet and you sit down on z!”

We’re going to keep thinking about other patterns we can use for this game. Stay tuned!

Shapes all around us!

“When I had chips today, I found one that was a love heart shape! It’s symmetrical because both sides are the same. When it’s broken in little pieces it’s not symmetrical” Jasmine

Walk to School Day

Dear Teachers and Parents,

As part of our Grade 1 Project we have been learning about Road Safety and we are organising a walk to school day for Grade 1’s. We are looking for a few adults to help us walk to school safely.

Grade 1’s will meet the adults at a special spot at 8:30 am and we will walk to school together in a ‘Walking School Bus’. This means we have an adult leading a group of children and an adult behind us. The more adults that can come, the more meeting places we will have. We are hoping this will get more Grade 1’s walking to school in nice weather and if it is a success we will help our friends from other grades think about walking safely to school too.

Please reply to this post if you can come or come to Grade 1 and speak to us.  \

Thank You!

From The Grade 1 Walk to School Committee.

Fiona T, Ahsan, Hussnain, Estelle, Edward, Bree, Angel, Tori, Tarik, Abass, Gow, Fawad, Jade, Jasmine, Joey, Liam, Nyachuot and Miss Cervenjak

Our Project – Creating a book

As part of our project group, we are creating a book for the 2013 prep children for how they can walk to school safely. We are working very hard with on our illustrations.

We are using water colour, marbling, pastel, computer, photography and pencils for our illustrations.
