Today representatives of our committees shared with our whole Grade 1 community our different projects.
“We’ve been talking about walking to school and planning a walk to school day” Tori.
“And being safe. We’ve been talking about signs that we see” Hussnain.
“We need air and energy and we have to exercise our bodies” Risinu.
“We’ve been talking about what the 2013 preps need to know to walk to school safely” Alison.
“We wrote all our ideas on this piece of paper” Aaliyah.
“We’re making an adventure story!” Brian.
“It means that we write a book that the reader chooses what they do” Nathan.
“We made a play about how to walk to school and played a game. It’s an adventure story about road safety” Tevi.
“We had traffic lights and the audience needed to give the choices. If we didn’t make a strong choice to go, we crashed” AJ.
“Red is for stop, green is for go and orange is for slow down” Milan.
We can’t wait to see the learning from all committees and how they can help the community be safe when coming to school!
This morning something very special happened…Miss Nicolaou and the grade one’s received a letter all the way from Dooby the Robot. Dooby invited us to Robot Land to help him out with his dance video. Dooby wore black sunglasses and communicated to us through his robot actions.
Our mission was to work as a team and create our very own robot medallions to wear in the dance video. This was very exciting! We used black paper and shiny foil…
Today in LA we watched a video of a famous train called ‘The Flying Scotsman’.
We noticed how the wheels moved and AJ said that one wheel pushes the other one.
We tried to make our own versions of the wheels out of Lego.
Performing Art Space
Jasmine: “In the performing art space, Jorji was the person who talks to the person that is sick. I was sick and I needed an operation. My heart wasn’t beating. Everyone was sad, Fiona D was my child. In the operation Estelle and Tahra fixed me and my heart was beating again!”
Communication Space Alison: “In the communication space, we were thinking about different ways that we could communicate! Tevi wants to write letters. Jade and I want to Skype people.”
Construction Space Nathan: “we made our cars and then we raced them.”
Victor: “my car broke!”
AJ: “my car went the furthest – I think it’s because I had four wheels.”
The Grade 1’s were looking at the poem “A Child’s Plea…” (the author of the poem is unknown) during shared reading workshops. This poem has been in their reading logs since prep. We read the poem and discussed what learning is and what our learning looks like. They came up with so many “Wonderings” and “Discoveries” from reading the poem!
The biggest discovery was that they began to look at what they do during the day and began to identify what their learning.
“We share with each other! We are a community” – Brian
“It’s like the measuring that we are doing in the mathematics space” – Connor
“We played that memory game that is like a memory tray” – Jasmine
“Way and weigh are the same word but means different” – Tevi
Although it is Mother’s Day, we talked about how it is a great opportunity to appreciate any special females in our lives. We are hoping that all the special Mums, Grandmas, Aunts, sisters or special ladies in your lives had a wonderful day today!
On Wednesday 3rd May 2012, the grade 1’s had their assembly to share their learning with Wooranna Park Primary School. They used Skype to portray real time news broadcasting. In workshops, students have been looking at different forms of sharing news – news reporters, newspapers and the blog. It is an opportunity to develop their public speaking and presenting skills.
Today we were playing a game in pairs where we were keeping a record of how many times a number is rolled. When we rolled a number, we counted on to 10.
Which number did you roll the least?
