Learning Agreement

Today we had a very engaged learning agreement! We reflected at the end of learning agreement on what we saw, what we heard and how we felt.

Have you filled your jar today?

Today we talked about the question “have you filled your jar today?”

We all come to school with an imaginary jar. Every time someone does a good deed to help us or show us kindness, a magical bean is placed in our jar. When we help another or show some one else kindness, a magical bean is placed in their jar. But if we hurt someone else or waste others learning time, we remove a magical bean from their jar.

We have a grade 1 community jar- when we see a strong, helpful or kind choice being made by a grade 1 a magical bean goes in the jar. I wonder how many we will have at the end of the day?

Being a strong grade 1 learner in our community

Today we had circle time where we discussed strong choices that grade 1’s can make.

What strong choices will you be bringing into the grade 1 community?

Tori: “Listening to instructions.”
Angel: “I am going to keep my hands to myself.”
Tahra: “I will listen to instructions.”
Joyice: “I’m going to step up and be a leader by helping people and listening to the teacher.”
Ali: “I will think before I say things.”
Muhamad: “thinking of other people’s feelings… I want them to feel happy.”
Gow: “I’ll keep my hands to myself.”
Fawad: “I’ll be happy.”

“Noni the Pony” #5

Noni the Pony, Dave the Dog and Coco that Cat were all asleep in the hay. In our previous workshop, we worked out how many legs were curled up in the bed. Today we made up our own wonderful addition stories! We had wonderful imaginations with the animals we thought of – some are quite tricky!

Can you work out the solution to our addition stories? How did you work it out?

A giraffe, a pig, a zebra and five Garfields [cats] are sleeping in the bed. How many legs are in the bed?
Alex

In the farm there was animals sleeping in the hay. There was a centipede and there was a lion and there was a tiger. How many legs are in the hay?
Yanni

“Noni the Pony” #4

We made an amazing discovery today – “Noni the Pony” has lots of rhyming words! We made a list of all the rhyming words we found then made lists of them. Sitting with a partner, we brainstormed more words to add to the lists.

What other words can you think of that rhyme with these?

Movement is Everywhere

Today we introduced our statement and project wall to the grade 1’s…

“Movement is Everywhere”

They began thinking about the statement during Learning Agreement and even began adding wonderings and wishes to the wall.

What wonderings (questions), discoveries (thoughts) or wishes (ideas) do you have about our statement “Movement is Everywhere”?
