Shapes all around us!

“When I had chips today, I found one that was a love heart shape! It’s symmetrical because both sides are the same. When it’s broken in little pieces it’s not symmetrical” Jasmine

But we don’t have any pink!

Today Jorji and Jasmine were in the art studio space.

“We want to do a pink pattern, but there’s no pink” said Jasmine. Jorji and Jasmine researched pink patterns. Jasmine found a bow – she knew it wasn’t a pattern but she really liked it.

Now we need to draw our designs…

Now we need to make pink paint!
What will happen when we mix red and white together? What about blue and red?


“When you put red and white, it makes light pink. With blue it made a darker pink… Kind of light purple?” Jasmine

Meeting Dooby in Robot Land

This morning something very special happened…Miss Nicolaou and the grade one’s received a letter all the way from Dooby the Robot. Dooby invited us to Robot Land to help him out with his dance video. Dooby wore black sunglasses and communicated to us through his robot actions.
Our mission was to work as a team and create our very own robot medallions to wear in the dance video. This was very exciting! We used black paper and shiny foil…

Target Teaching- Bird’s Eye View

In our focus to understand the concept of ‘Birds Eye View’, students in our target teaching session built a simple 3D ‘tower’ from wooden blocks. Students then took a picture on the iPad of what a bird would see if it flew over their tower.

At first it was tricky to not draw the blocks we knew were there, even if we couldn’t see them from our birds eye perspective.


Abass is looking down on his tower, seeing it like a bird would see it from the sky.

We then drew a bird’s eye view of their building using graph paper.

Learning Agreement Spaces – Our Reflections!

Performing Art Space
Jasmine: “In the performing art space, Jorji was the person who talks to the person that is sick. I was sick and I needed an operation. My heart wasn’t beating. Everyone was sad, Fiona D was my child. In the operation Estelle and Tahra fixed me and my heart was beating again!”

Communication Space
Alison: “In the communication space, we were thinking about different ways that we could communicate! Tevi wants to write letters. Jade and I want to Skype people.”
Construction Space
Nathan: “we made our cars and then we raced them.”
Victor: “my car broke!”
AJ: “my car went the furthest – I think it’s because I had four wheels.”

Performing Art Space

The grade 1 children have been very fascinated by bodies – how we move and how to keep our bodies healthy. After lots of discussions and wonderings, a group of grade 1’s worked together to design a clinic room and waiting room. They decided that it could be for a doctor or a vet.

It will be exciting to see what learning this space provokes in term 3! We still have a few finishing touches to be made…

Rock Around the Clock!

After much excitement, the Grade 1’s are proud to announce their premiere release of “Rock Around the Clock”!

Students created the rock n roll style dance during the exploration of “time” in workshops. A group decided to be really dedicated to learning the dance, even during lunchtimes and Friday Fun! Their reward for their engagement and positive learning attitudes was to create this film clip.

Well done, you should all be very proud of your learning!
