Grade 1 Assembly

On Wednesday 3rd May 2012, the grade 1’s had their assembly to share their learning with Wooranna Park Primary School. They used Skype to portray real time news broadcasting. In workshops, students have been looking at different forms of sharing news – news reporters, newspapers and the blog. It is an opportunity to develop their public speaking and presenting skills.

It was a fantastic assembly, all grade 1 students should feel very proud of their learning from term 1 and 2!

Captain’s Sarsha and Yanni

Today on our visit to grade 2 we controlled the Dragon Boat on its voyage to Hawaii.

We worked out how to get to Hawaii, first we used the globe then we used the Atlas. Then we used the google earth boat.

We had to work out if we were going north south east or west. We were going to the North which is the N on the compass.

We noticed the globe had numbers all around it. What do the numbers mean?
Sarsha- they mean how far it will take
Hayley – the circles at the bottom mean time while the other ones mean where did we go

Thinking about our choices

It’s really important to think about things before we either say them or do them. To demonstrate, we got a piece of paper and discussed situations that leave another person hurt or angry- and we scrunched up our paper. When we tried to smooth it out, we couldn’t – there was still the marks of where the paper had been scrunched. We thought about ways that we could help each other in our community to help other peoples “paper” to get smoothed out…

If people doesn’t know how to write something I can help them – Nyamal
If someone hurts I’ll take care of them – Broadie
I’ll listen – Rhema
Walk inside to be safe – Connor
I can tap people to help them to listen – Ian
Sharing – Brian

Saying sorry is an important way to show we have made a mistake and that we realise it – but our actions leave a mark.20120508-210335.jpg

Learning Agreement

Today we had a very engaged learning agreement! We reflected at the end of learning agreement on what we saw, what we heard and how we felt.

Have you filled your jar today?

Today we talked about the question “have you filled your jar today?”

We all come to school with an imaginary jar. Every time someone does a good deed to help us or show us kindness, a magical bean is placed in our jar. When we help another or show some one else kindness, a magical bean is placed in their jar. But if we hurt someone else or waste others learning time, we remove a magical bean from their jar.

We have a grade 1 community jar- when we see a strong, helpful or kind choice being made by a grade 1 a magical bean goes in the jar. I wonder how many we will have at the end of the day?

The Animal Race

Today in LA, Yanni, Miniya, Jade and Jorji made an animation.

It was a race and the tiger won and the duck was going in circles.

We hope you like it.

This time we only took 26 photos so its only a short video, next time we will make a bigger video.

“Noni the Pony” #5

Noni the Pony, Dave the Dog and Coco that Cat were all asleep in the hay. In our previous workshop, we worked out how many legs were curled up in the bed. Today we made up our own wonderful addition stories! We had wonderful imaginations with the animals we thought of – some are quite tricky!

Can you work out the solution to our addition stories? How did you work it out?

A giraffe, a pig, a zebra and five Garfields [cats] are sleeping in the bed. How many legs are in the bed?
Alex

In the farm there was animals sleeping in the hay. There was a centipede and there was a lion and there was a tiger. How many legs are in the hay?

Counting Our Pouches

Dear Mums and Dads,

Today we counted our pouches and we had twenty-three pouches today. Please help your kids to remember to bring their pouches. Our goal was thirty-two but we want to make it our goal to get forty pouches to school! That’s a challenge!!

We are keeping the data each day using unifix blocks.

From Yanni and Aaliyah
